As a medical professional and certified yoga instructor, Dr. Sonja Richmond has a wealth of knowledge and unique insight into the complex workings of the human body. She brings these two practices together to deliver a new perspective on addressing health as a whole. Dr. Richmond was raised in Miami, Florida by her South American parents. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from The University of Virginia, followed by attending The George Washington University School of Medicine for medical school and residency. Over nearly two decades she has made several achievements in the medical field, including being a Board-Certified Internist and Board-Certified Hospice Medical Director. She is licensed to practice medicine in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.
Along with her medical accomplishments, Dr. Richmond has also spent the last 15 years building up her expertise in the practice and teaching of yoga. She has an Ayurveda Certification, and is currently working toward her Yin Yoga Certification to be completed in the Spring of 2022. She brings her medical insight into the yoga classes she teaches, as well as incorporating breath work, meditation and movement to her patients as a doctor. By bringing her two worlds together, Dr. Richmond is able to provide a fully restorative experience for all she works alongside.
Over the years, she has served as a valuable resource speaking to several groups across the country. Her unique approach to yoga, while utilizing her knowledge in internal medicine, allows her to engage audiences in a truly one-of-a-kind way.
